Nutella was created in the 1940s by Pietro Ferrero, an Italian pastry maker and founder of the Ferrero company. It was originally called ‘Supercrema’ and was intended to be a solution to the chocolate shortage during World War II.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9 inch baking dish.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Add the Nutella and stir until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Add the Nutella mixture and mix well.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few crumbs.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 30 minutes.
  9. Cut into squares and serve.
