  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the date squares crust ingredients and press into the bottom of a 9-inch (23 cm) springform pan.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Pour the cream cheese mixture over the crust in the springform pan.
  5. In a small saucepan, combine the dates, butter, brown sugar, rolled oats, and chopped walnuts. Cook over medium heat until the mixture is thickened, about 5 minutes.
  6. Spoon the date mixture over the cream cheese layer in the springform pan.
  7. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the center is set.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 2 hours.
  9. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight before serving.
  10. Remove the sides of the springform pan and serve chilled.
