  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a 23cm (9-inch) round cake tin.
  2. Melt the butter and dark chocolate together in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of simmering water.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the caster sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until pale and creamy.
  4. Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture to the egg mixture, whisking continuously.
  5. Sift in the self-raising flour and baking powder, then fold gently until just combined.
  6. Stir in the orange zest and juice.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake tin and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the tin for 10 minutes.
  10. Transfer the cake to a wire rack and let it cool completely.
