Scones are a traditional British baked good, often served with clotted cream and jam for afternoon tea.

This is vegetarian recipe. Dish can be prepared in 40 minutes. Recipe requires some culinary experience (medium difficulty). Number of ingredients: 7.

  1. Preheat the oven to 220°C.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut the butter into small pieces and add it to the dry ingredients. Use your fingers to rub the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and egg. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times to bring it together. Pat the dough into a circle about 2cm thick.
  6. Use a round cutter to cut out scones from the dough. Place the scones onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and let the scones cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes before serving.
