Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and salt. Set aside.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and molasses.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.

Shape the dough into 1-inch balls and roll in granulated sugar.

Place the dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are set and the tops are cracked.

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
