Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line a square baking pan.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and dark chocolate together in short bursts, stirring in between, until smooth.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract.

Gradually pour the melted chocolate mixture into the sugar and egg mixture, whisking constantly.

In another bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, folding gently until just combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Press the cherries into the batter.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
