  2. Peel and cut the potatoes into small chunks.

  6. In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter until the butter is melted.
  7. Pour the milk mixture over the mashed potatoes and stir until well combined.
  8. Stir in half of the cheddar cheese, salt, and black pepper.
  9. Transfer the mashed potatoes to a greased baking dish.
