In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

Add the sugar and evaporated milk, stirring constantly until the mixture comes to a boil.

Boil for 5 minutes, stirring constantly.

Remove from heat and stir in the marshmallow cream, chocolate chips, vanilla extract, and chopped nuts (if using).

Pour the mixture into a greased 9x9 inch baking dish.

Let it cool at room temperature for 2 hours, then refrigerate for an additional 2 hours or until firm.

Cut into squares and serve.
