  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). In a large bowl, combine the flour, oats, chopped nuts, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Add the cold cubed butter to the dry ingredients and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the maple syrup and milk. Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture and stir until just combined.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times to bring it together. Pat the dough into a circle about 1-inch (5 cm) thick.
  5. Cut the dough into 8 wedges and transfer them to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and let the scones cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes before serving.
