  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Beat in the flour mixture alternately with the pumpkin puree. Stir in the milk until smooth. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  5. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pan for 30 minutes, then remove from the pan and let cool completely.
  6. For the frosting, beat together the powdered sugar and cream cheese until smooth. Spread over the cooled cake. Serve with whipped cream if desired.
