Apple dumplings are a classic American dessert that originated in Pennsylvania Dutch country.

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Peel and core the apples, then cut each apple into 8 slices.

Roll out the puff pastry sheet and cut it into 6 equal squares.

Place an apple slice on each square of puff pastry.

In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle the mixture over the apple slices.

Fold the corners of the puff pastry squares over the apples, forming a dumpling shape.

Place the dumplings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the vanilla extract and water.

Pour the butter mixture over the dumplings.

Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender.
