  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel and core the apples, then cut each apple into 8 slices.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry sheet and cut it into 6 equal squares.
  4. Place an apple slice on each square of puff pastry.
  5. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle the mixture over the apple slices.
  6. Fold the corners of the puff pastry squares over the apples, forming a dumpling shape.
  7. Place the dumplings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the vanilla extract and water.
  9. Pour the butter mixture over the dumplings.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  11. Remove from the oven and let the dumplings rest for 10 minutes.
