  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the cake flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract and lemon zest.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
  5. In a small bowl, beat together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and lemon juice until smooth.
  6. Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared pan, then spoon the cream cheese mixture evenly over the batter. Top with the remaining cake batter.
  7. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Serve and enjoy!
