  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch square baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the molasses and egg.
  4. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, alternating with the hot water. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  5. Bake for 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the gingerbread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove from the pan and cool completely on a wire rack.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled gingerbread.
  7. Slice and serve.
