Iced Stars are a popular holiday cookie in the United States, often enjoyed during Christmas time.

In a mixing bowl, cream together butter and granulated sugar.

Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix well.

Gradually add the flour and mix until a dough forms.

Divide the dough in half and shape each half into a disk. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch (6 cm) thickness.

Use star-shaped cookie cutters to cut out cookies and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.

Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.

In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and food coloring to make the icing.

Drizzle the icing over the cooled cookies and let it set.
