In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.

Add vanilla extract and mix well.

Gradually add the all-purpose flour and mix until the dough comes together.

Divide the dough into two equal portions. Add food coloring to one portion if desired and mix until well combined.

Wrap both portions of dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Take a small portion of each dough and roll them into small balls.

Place the balls next to each other in a flower shape on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake for 12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.

Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.
