Homemade Fig Newtons
Fig Newtons were first created and named after the town of Newton, Massachusetts, in the late 1800s. They have since become a popular snack across the United States.
This is vegetarian recipe. Dish can be prepared in 100 minutes. Recipe requires some culinary experience (medium difficulty). Number of ingredients: 10.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a small bowl, soak the dried figs in boiling water for 10 minutes. Drain the figs and chop them.

In a large bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar. Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix well.

In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until well combined.

Fold in the chopped dried figs.

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a 1/4-inch thickness. Cut the dough into rectangles, about 2x3 inches in size.

Place the rectangles onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes, or until lightly golden.

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
