Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and mix well.

Stir in the rolled oats, caramel sauce, chocolate chips, and chopped nuts (if using).

Spread the dough evenly into the prepared baking dish. Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown.

Remove from the oven and let it cool in the dish for 30 minutes.
