Hoffman Cookies were named after their creator, Ruth Hoffman, who first made them in the 1930s. They have since become a classic American cookie recipe.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.

Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped walnuts.

Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets.

Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown around the edges.

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
