In a large mixing bowl, combine the Herman starter, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, butter, egg, vanilla extract, and milk. Mix well until smooth.

Pour half of the batter into the prepared cake pan. Sprinkle with half of the chopped nuts, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon. Repeat with the remaining batter and toppings.

Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan for 15 minutes. Then, transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
