  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.

  3. Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened.
  4. Add the carrot and peas and cook for another 2 minutes.
  5. Add the rice and stir to coat it with the oil and vegetables.
  6. Pour in the water and season with salt and black pepper.
  7. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover the pot.
  8. Simmer for 20 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the liquid is absorbed.
  9. Remove from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes.
  10. Fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
