  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the raisins and mix well.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and egg.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  6. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead lightly.
  7. Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Cut a cross shape on the top of the loaf.
  9. Melt the butter and brush it over the top of the loaf.
  10. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  11. Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes before serving.
