Golden Cheddar Cheese Scones

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Add the cold butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Stir in the grated cheddar cheese.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and egg. Pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture and stir until just combined.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together.

Pat the dough into a circle about 1-inch (5 cm) thick. Use a round biscuit cutter to cut out scones and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Brush the tops of the scones with a little milk and sprinkle with chopped fresh chives.

Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown.

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
