Gingersnaps are a popular holiday cookie in many countries, especially during Christmas time.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and molasses.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Roll the dough into 1-inch balls, then roll each ball in the additional sugar. Place the balls on a baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are set and the tops are cracked.

Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
