Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the molasses, egg, and vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk. Mix until just combined.

Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about 2/3 full.

Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 5 minutes. Transfer the cupcakes to a wire rack to cool completely.

In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, cream cheese, and nutmeg until smooth.

Once the cupcakes are completely cool, frost with the cream cheese frosting.
