Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x9-inch baking pan.

In a mixing bowl, sift together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.

In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and molasses.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the boiling water.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.

Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Allow the gingerbread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk to make the glaze.

Drizzle the glaze over the cooled gingerbread.
