Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and dark chocolate. Stir until smooth.

In a separate large bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract.

Add the melted chocolate mixture to the egg mixture and stir until well combined.

Sift in the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Stir until just combined.

If desired, fold in the walnuts.

Pour the batter into a greased and lined 9x9-inch baking dish.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
