Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line a square baking pan.

In a saucepan, melt the butter and dark chocolate over low heat, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat.

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract.

Gradually pour the melted chocolate mixture into the sugar mixture, stirring until well combined.

In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.

If desired, fold in the walnuts.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.

Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
