Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a saucepan, melt the sugar over medium heat until it turns into a golden caramel.

Pour the caramel into a round cake pan and tilt the pan to coat the bottom evenly.

In a large bowl, beat the eggs until well combined.

Add the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract to the bowl and mix well.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.

Pour the batter into the cake pan with the caramel.

Place the cake pan in a larger baking dish and fill the larger dish with hot water halfway up the sides of the cake pan.

Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the center of the flan cake is set.

Remove the cake pan from the water bath and let it cool for 10 minutes.

Run a knife around the edge of the pan to loosen the cake, then invert it onto a serving plate.
