In a separate large bowl, mix together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well combined. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix until smooth. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Stir in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using). Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
