Profiteroles are often served with a drizzle of caramel sauce or a dusting of powdered sugar.

  1. In a saucepan, bring water and butter to a boil. Add flour and stir until the mixture forms a ball.
  2. Transfer the mixture to a mixing bowl and let it cool slightly. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, until the dough is smooth.
  3. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of dough onto a baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool.
  5. In a separate mixing bowl, whip the cream until stiff peaks form. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract while continuing to whip.
  6. Cut each profiterole in half and fill with whipped cream. Dip the top of each profiterole in melted chocolate.
  7. Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve.
