In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, egg, and vanilla extract.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.

In a deep saucepan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Drop spoonfuls of the dough into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.

Remove the doughnuts from the oil and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
