  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  4. In a small bowl, mix together the cinnamon, brown sugar, and chopped nuts.
  5. Pour half of the batter into the prepared cake pan. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the batter. Pour the remaining batter over the cinnamon-sugar layer and sprinkle the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture on top.
  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove from the pan and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
