Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Cut the butter into small cubes and add it to the flour mixture. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, egg, vanilla extract, maple syrup, and milk.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together.

Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch (5 cm) thick. Use a round cookie cutter or a glass to cut out scones and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

While the scones are cooling, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar and maple syrup until smooth.
