The Dutch baby pancake is believed to have originated in the United States, despite its name. It is said to have been derived from the German pancake dish called ‘pfannkuchen’.

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

In a blender, combine the flour, milk, eggs, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Blend until smooth.

Place the butter in a 10-inch cast-iron skillet or ovenproof frying pan. Place the skillet in the preheated oven until the butter has melted and the skillet is hot.

Carefully remove the hot skillet from the oven and pour the batter into the skillet.

Return the skillet to the oven and bake for 20 minutes, or until the Dutch baby is puffed and golden brown.

Remove from the oven and dust with powdered sugar.

Serve immediately with fresh berries.
