Date-Nut Meringues
Meringues are believed to have originated in Switzerland and were named after the village of Meiringen.

Preheat the oven to 225°F (110°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a mixing bowl, beat the egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form.

Gradually add the granulated sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks form.

Gently fold in the vanilla extract, chopped dates, and chopped walnuts.

Drop spoonfuls of the meringue mixture onto the prepared baking sheet.

Bake for 90 minutes, or until the meringues are dry and crisp.

Turn off the oven and let the meringues cool in the oven for 30 minutes.

Remove from the oven and dust with powdered sugar.
