Spritz cookies originated in Germany and are traditionally made using a cookie press to create unique shapes and designs.

In a mixing bowl, cream together the cream cheese, unsalted butter, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Add the egg yolk and vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.

Gradually add the all-purpose flour and salt, and mix until the dough comes together.

Fill a cookie press with the dough, and press cookies onto ungreased baking sheets.

Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Optional: Decorate the cooled cookies with icing or sprinkles.
