  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
  5. In a separate bowl, toss the sliced apples with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  6. In a small skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the apple mixture and cook until the apples are tender and caramelized.
  7. Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared loaf pan. Top with half of the caramelized apples. Repeat with the remaining batter and apples.
  8. Bake for 55-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan for 15 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
