M&M’s were first introduced in 1941 and were originally created as a convenient way to transport chocolate to soldiers during World War II.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.

In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Stir in the shredded coconut and M&M's.

Drop rounded spoonfuls of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
