Ingredients
Instructions
-
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt.
-
In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until creamy. Add the molasses and egg, and beat until well combined.
-
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing well after each addition.
-
Divide the dough into two equal portions, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
Roll out one portion of the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use a template or freehand to cut out the desired shapes for your cookie house.
-
Transfer the cut-out shapes to the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until lightly golden around the edges.
-
Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
-
Repeat steps 6-8 with the remaining dough portion.
-
Once the cookies are completely cooled, assemble the cookie house using royal icing as glue.
-
Decorate the cookie house with assorted candies and decorations as desired.
-
Allow the icing to set before serving or displaying the cookie house.
