  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
  5. In a small bowl, dissolve the instant coffee powder in 1 tablespoon of milk. Add the coffee mixture to the batter and mix until well combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about 2/3 full.
  7. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. In a mixing bowl, beat together the powdered sugar, unsalted butter, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth and creamy.
  9. Once the cupcakes are completely cooled, frost them with the mocha buttercream. Enjoy!
