Chocolate Cookies with Toppings
Chocolate chip cookies were invented by Ruth Graves Wakefield in the 1930s when she added chopped chocolate to her cookie dough, expecting it to melt and create chocolate cookies. Instead, the chocolate chips held their shape, giving birth to the iconic chocolate chip cookies we know today.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

Add the egg and vanilla extract to the bowl and mix well.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until well combined.

Fold in the chocolate chips.

Scoop tablespoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them apart.

Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are set.

Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.

Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once cooled, decorate the cookies with assorted toppings.

Allow the toppings to set for 30 minutes before serving.
