In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.

Gently fold in the chocolate chips.

Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Grease with butter or cooking spray.

Pour 1/4 cup of batter onto the skillet for each pancake. Cook until bubbles form on the surface, then flip and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.

Remove from the skillet and keep warm. Repeat with the remaining batter.

Serve the chocolate chip pancakes warm with additional chocolate chips and maple syrup, if desired.
