Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix well. Stir in the chocolate chips.

Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until lightly golden brown around the edges. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
