  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Grease and flour a round cake pan.
  3. Melt the chocolate and butter together in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of simmering water. Stir until smooth and remove from heat.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar and eggs until pale and fluffy.
  5. Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture to the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
  6. Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Stir until just combined.
  7. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract until smooth.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  9. Bake for 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
  11. Transfer the cake to a wire rack and let it cool completely.
  12. Once cooled, dust the top of the cake with powdered sugar and decorate with fresh berries.
