  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a separate large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and molasses, and mix well.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until well combined.
  4. Divide the dough into two equal portions, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Roll out one portion of the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out the desired shapes for the gingerbread house walls, roof, and other decorations.
  7. Transfer the cut-out shapes to the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until lightly golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool completely on a wire rack.
  9. Repeat steps 6-8 with the remaining dough portion.
  10. Once the gingerbread pieces are completely cooled, assemble the house using royal icing as glue.
  11. Decorate the gingerbread house with assorted candies and decorations.
  12. Allow the icing to set before serving or displaying.
