Caramelized onions have a rich, sweet flavor that adds depth to many dishes.

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

Roll out the puff pastry sheet and cut it into 12 equal squares.

Place the puff pastry squares on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.

Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 10 minutes.

Stir in balsamic vinegar, thyme, salt, and black pepper.

Remove the skillet from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.

Spoon a small amount of the onion mixture onto each puff pastry square.

Top each square with crumbled goat cheese.

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown.

Remove from the oven and let the puffs cool for 5 minutes.
