  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking dish.
  2. In a saucepan, combine the dates, water, and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat until the dates are soft and the mixture thickens, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in the flour, rolled oats, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  4. Press half of the oat mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Spread the date mixture evenly over the crust. Crumble the remaining oat mixture over the top.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown. Allow to cool completely before cutting into squares.
  6. Serve and enjoy!
