Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch (23cm) loaf pan.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients.

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. Bake for 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once the cake is completely cooled, sprinkle powdered sugar on top. Slice and serve.
