  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add melted butter and granulated sugar to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour and knead the dough until smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rest in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add baking soda.
  7. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and roll each portion into a long rope.
  8. Shape the ropes into pretzels and dip them into the boiling water mixture for 30 seconds.
  9. Place the pretzels onto the prepared baking sheet and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  10. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk to make the glaze.
