Butter Shortcake
Shortcake is believed to have originated in the United Kingdom in the 16th century and has since become a popular dessert around the world.

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Add the cold cubed butter to the bowl and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the beaten egg, milk, and vanilla extract.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.

Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times to bring it together.

Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness and use a round biscuit cutter to cut out shortcakes.

Place the shortcakes onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.

Remove from the oven and let the shortcakes cool on a wire rack for about 30 minutes.

Once cooled, slice the shortcakes in half horizontally.
